I, Douglas N. Smith, Chair of the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee, do hereby call for a meeting of the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Rockbridge County Administrative Building, Supervisor’s Board Room, 150 S. Main Street, Lexington, VA 24450. The agenda shall be as follows:

Rockbridge Area Republican Committee Minutes of the July 16, 2019 Unit Meeting

The meeting of the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee was held at the Rockbridge County Administration Building, Board of Supervisor’s room, 150 South Main Street, Lexington, VA, 24450, onTuesday, July 16, 2019. Chairman Doug Smith called the meeting to order at 7:04. Torben Pedersen gave an invocation, Chairman Smith led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Attendance Report: Twenty-five members were present with five guests. Establishment of Quorum (25%+1): A quorum constituted 17 members. With 25 members present of 65 active members, a quorum was present.

Membership: (1)  M/S/C [motion/second/carry] Mattie Smith/Mona Hazera:  TO ACCEPT ANDREW RYAN’S MEMBERSHIP INTO THE ROCKBRIDGE AREA REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE.
M/S/C Mark Reed/Cher McCoy:  TO PUT CHERYL NESTER’S NAME INTO CONSIDERATION FOR MEMBERSHIP INTO THE ROCKBRIDGE AREA REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE.
M/S/C Susan Wood/Tom Gritzmacher:  TO PUT KEVIN HIVICK’S NAME INTO CONSIDERATION FOR MEMBERSHIP INTO THE ROCKBRIDGE AREA REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE.

Secretary’s Report: M/S/C Torben Pedersen/Charles Kostelni:  TO APPROVE THE JUNE 18, 2019, UNIT MINUTES.

Chairman’s Report:  Chairman Smith reported a full slate of candidates for the November election. A good chance to meet the candidates will be at the First Look Party.

Treasurer’s Report:   Treasurer Charles Kostelni reported a balance of $4,209.74.  M/S/C Torben Pedersen/Scott Risser:  TO APPROVE THE TREASURER’S REPORT.

New Business:
Campaign Reports:
Congressman Ben Cline –Tyler Adams, Political Advisor for Congressman Cline, gave an update. He announced that Rep. Cline was named Freedom Works Foundation’s Legislator of the Month. CONF. Cline also received 100% approval rating from Heritage Foundation.
Jared Moon, Common Wealth’s Attorney–Is running unopposed. This is the first time in over 30 years a new Commonwealth’s Attorney has not been opposed. He is working with Allegany and Bath County CWA to set up a joint Drug Court where the accused will have direct and immediate accountability to a judge.
Charles Kostelni (Buffalo BOS)–Reported that he is actively door-knocking and has reached over 600 doors. Yard signs have been purchased.
Andy Ryan (Natural Bridge BOS)–Is going door-to-door.
Bob Day (South River BOS)–Says he has name recognition and will hit hard during September and October.

Special Committees Progress Reports:
Fundraising–Maddie Smith reported on the “GOP First Look.” Need to continue to push ticket sales. Event starts at 4:00 with BBQ being served at 5:00 with speeches to follow.
Communication –Facebook continues to be a popular means of promoting the Republican message.
Headquarters –Pat Anthony is scheduling volunteers so that the HQ is opened Monday through Friday from 10:00-5:00 and Saturdays 10:00-1:00.
Legislative –Cher McCoy reported on the 2019 General Assembly session. Her full report is posted on the website.
