I, Douglas N. Smith, Chair of the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee, do hereby call for a meeting of the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the Rockbridge County Administration Building, 150 South Main Street, Lexington, VA 24450.   You may view the agenda below, followed by the November Unit Meeting minutes.  If you are unable to attend the Unit meeting, you may send a proxy by competing this form.

Minutes of the November 19, 2019Unit MeetingThe meeting of the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee was held in the Board of Supervisor’s Room of the County Administration Building, 150 South Main Street, Lexington, VA, 24450,onTuesday,November 19, 2019.Chairman Doug Smithcalled the meeting to order at7:02.Scott Rissergave an invocationandChairman Smith led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegianceand the Republican Party of VirginiaCreed.AttendanceReport: Twenty-sevenmembers were presentwith twoguests.Establishment of Quorum (25%+1): A quorum constituted 13members. With 27members present of 52active members, a quorum was present.Membership Report: M/S/C John Tucker/Mark Reed TO CONSIDER SCOTT GUISE FOR MEMBERSHIP INTO THE ROCKBRIDGE AREA REPUBICAN COMMITTEE. Mark Reed was appointed as his sponsor.

Secretary’s Report: M/S/C Mitch Fridley/Dennis Hawes TO APPROVE THE OCTOBER 15, 2019, UNIT MINUTES.

Treasurer’s Report: A balance of $2,888.33was reported. Treasure’s report will be filed for audit.

Chairman’s Report: •Pleased that the Republican Party was represented on every possible position.  •Although there were several local disappointments, the state-wide were gravely disappointing.  •Delegate Ronnie Campbell carried the county and Buena Vista extremely well.

Election 2019 Wrap-up: •Delegate Ronnie Campbell received over 62% of the 24thDistrict vote. •Jared Moon, Commonwealth’s Attorney –Reported that there are several large cases coming up in 2020. •Daniel Mowry (Buena Vista Commonwealth’s Attorney candidate) –Thanked the Unit for their support. •Charles Kostelni (Buffalo BOS candidate) –Thanked the Unit for their support and reported he has received many notes that thanked him for promoting the Republican Party. •Andy Ryan (Natural Bridge BOS candidate) –Thanked the Unit for their support. •Sample Ballots & Direct Mailings –These were district specific and proved very helpful, especially since ‘R’ and ‘D’ after a candidate’s name is only listed for state and federal candidates. However, we need more volunteers to man EVERY polling location. It was suggested that the sample ballots be printed earlier to be available to hand out as candidates go door-to-door. •Election Board: Chairman Smith complimented the diligent work of the three Republican members: Nancy Sullivan, Lexington; John Brandt, Buena Vista and Whitney Huffman, Rockbridge County.

Election 2020: •No local offices will be on the ballot. •US Senator Warner (D) and President Trump will be on the ballot. •Trump 2020 hats are for sale and a “Trump Team” is being formed.

New Business: •Scott Guise spoke on the proposed legislation that will be presented during the 2020 General Assembly regarding the 2nd Amendment. Members were encouraged to attend the November 25 Board of Supervisor’s meeting to voice their concerns and encourage the BOS to support adoption of a resolution that will protect the 2ndAmendment rights of the citizens of Rockbridge County. Jared Moon encouraged us to “fight” any anti-gun laws in the court. •M/S Scott Risser/Kim Kostelni FOR THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO APPOINT A COMMITTEE TO EVALUATE AND REPORT BACK TO THE UNIT. M/S/C TO CALL THE QUESTION. Original motion carried.

Committee Reports: •Headquarters: Barb Risser extended kudos to Bill and Pat Anthony for their work in keeping the headquarters “up and running.” These accolades were echoed by those present.

Next Meeting: The December scheduled ‘meeting’ will be a Christmas social and thank you celebration for all the volunteers during the 2019 election period. M/S/C Cher McCoy/Dennis Hawes TO ADJOURN. Meeting was adjourned at 8:24.
